Emerging Researcher Award

The Emerging Researcher Award is awarded to a person of outstanding achievement in chemical engineering, chemistry or a closely related field every year. CSCST-UK establishes the Emerging Researcher Award with the objective to recognize the young active researcher in the UK universities for outstanding contribution to the science and technology of chemical engineering, chemistry and related disciplines. The Award also serves the purpose of (i) recognising and stimulating young talents within the relevant Chinese community in the UK and (ii) providing the visibility in a young career.

Nominations:

Nomination of the candidate must be done by their supervisors, and self nominations cannot be accepted. The nomination must include:

1. Citation to include the statement of why the candidate should receive the award and information relevant to the achievements of the candidate for the award (250 word maximum, aspects to consider: collaborative and multidisciplinary nature of their research; originality, innovation and impact of research; quality of publications and/or patents, etc.);
2. Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages including the publication list) to include a brief biographical sketch (200 word maximum to provide general background information on the nominee including their past accomplishments).

The Award

1. The award, a plaque, will be presented to the winner every year during the CSCST-UK annual conference.
2. The award also includes £200 prize which is sponsored by CSCST-UK and/or by other sponsors.
3. The winner of the Award will also be invited to deliver a special lecture on her/his research in a ceremony as part of the CSCST-UK annual conferences and/or contribute to an invited article in a Special Issue.
4. The Award will alternate between PhD students and postdoctoral early-career researchers. The selection committee will consider the nominations as appropriate for the award.

Selection

The selection of the award will take place every year, by a Selection Committee, which consists of four CSCST board members and the chair of the CSCST-UK annual conference. The Committee will be selected during the CSCST board meeting.

The deadline for nominations is 21st August 2020 and the 2020 CSCST-UK Emerging Researcher Award will be awarded a senior PhD student (year 3 or 4).
